Veronica Garcia, vice principal at Anson Jones Middle School in San Antonio, Texas, explains how students and teachers are assigned to teams and how this teaming at her school is beneficial for teaching and learning. Excerpted from NCREL's videoseries, Schools That Work: The Research Advantage, videoconference 3, Children as Explorers (NCREL, 1991).

"We have about 105 or 125 students assigned to one team. The team is composed of five academic teachers. We have a teacher in reading, science, math, and history, and these students share these teachers throughout the day, so when we're talking about teaming, we're talking teachers who really get to know their students. They spend the entire day with them, and these teachers also share common preparation time, planning times."
