Data Use: Data Primer
Resources
The Data Primer may generate some questions about the NCLB legislation, various mandates, and other issues related to educational data. The following list of resources has been assembled to help support the learning processes around data and data-driven decision making provided in the Data Primer.
State Data
To implement the Data Primer process and use the Practice sections, specific data are needed. The following links may be useful in finding the needed data.
State-Reported Data
- School Information Partnership
The School Information Partnership has been created to support the concept
of making data-driven decisions when addressing school improvement and
results. The collaborators have designed a Web site that provides state-reported
No Child Left Behind data not only to educators but also to parents,
policymakers, and other stakeholders. This Web site also includes a
suite of analytical tools to use when looking at the data.
State-Specific Data
For some states in the NCREL region, here are the links to state-supported pages.
- INDIANA - Accountability System for Academic Progress (ASAP) Web Site(built with NCREL support)
The ASAP Web site is designed to assist Indiana schools and school corporations in their efforts to improve teaching and learning, given the requirements and opportunities created by Public Law 221. The data and resource information help stakeholders to make informed decisions that have a positive impact on student achievement. The Web site has eight major sections to support informed decisions: academic standards, accountability, accreditation, best practice, professional development, school data, school improvement plan, and state profiles.
- ILLINOIS - Interactive Illinois Report Card (IIRC)
The Interactive Illinois Report Card is the state support site where educators and other educational stakeholder can view test results and school accountability information for Illinois schools.
- OHIO - Interactive Local Report Card
This interactive application provides analytical access to the state of Ohio's local report card data for parents, educators, policymakers, media, and the general public. The options available are data reports on community schools, district and building reports, special district grouping results, state ratings, and raw data for downloading.
- WISCONSIN - Wisconsin's Information Network for Successful Schools
(built with NCREL support)
This Web site is a valuable information resource for educators, parents, and the general public. It will assist school communities in educating the hearts and minds of all Wisconsin children. WINSS provides information on what the state of Wisconsin wants children to know and be able to do as well as how students are doing in these areas. Also included are processes for improving what is happening in the educational community and descriptions of best practices for improvement. WINSS is organized into four areas: standards and assessment, data analysis, continuous school improvement, and best practices.
- MICHIGAN - Michigan School Report Cards
This Web site provides educators with information about the performance of schools in Michigan. A search or browsing for a school will provide users with the school's report card. The report card supplies a composite grade for the school. Users can use the "View Details" link on each report card to understand the basis of each grade.
Online Content Resources
NCREL's Data Use Web site
This Web site provides educators with various resources that will provide assistance with collecting, analyzing, and learning about data.
Information on Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
AYP numbers vary per state. Here are some links to a explanation of AYP and other NCLB resources.
