DESCRIPTION
Schools across the Unites States are taking a new approach to school improvement called comprehensive school reform, or CSR. Rather than implementing isolated programs that may or may not improve the academic performance of all students, CSR schools seek to revitalize themselves by implementing scientifically based models for comprehensive school improvement that focus on all aspects of the school's operations. These models are based on challenging academic standards, strong professional development components, and meaningful outreach to both parents and communities.

This first booklet in the Making Good Choices series presents a decision-making strategy to help schools make informed, data-driven choices about school reform options. The narrative describes four steps in choosing a CSR model: laying the groundwork, evaluating your current situation, profiling your CSR approach, and making a decision. The tools include the following self-evaluation instrument, school profiling tool, research grid and questions relating to CSR models, and various helpful resources.
