DESCRIPTION
Curriculum Mapping is a free, user-friendly, and interactive Web site supporting district leaders and curriculum experts in refining existing mathematics and science curricula. It was developed by North Central Regional Educational Laboratory (NCREL), the U.S. Third International Science and Mathematics Study (TIMSS) National Research Center at Michigan State University, and First in the World Consortium.

Curriculum mapping is based on the TIMSS curriculum frameworks (developed by the Survey of Mathematics and Science Opportunities [SMSO] Research Project and funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Science Foundation) and provides access to valuable mathematics and science curriculum maps from top-achieving nations. Registered users first chart out their mathematics and/or science curricula by indicating what topics are being taught at which grade level across a spectrum of 44 mathematics and 79 science topics. Following a series of computerized analyses, the user receives a set of displays that scrutinize the curricula against that of top-achieving TIMSS nations. The entire process requires one to two hours for each curriculum. Users can save unfinished work to complete at a later time and also modify completed maps.
