Data Exploration: A Journey to Better Teaching and Learning comprises a 20-minute video and 22-page booklet profiling two schools that have successfully examined and utilized various data sources, data strategies, and data actions to advance student achievement.
Ideal for use by educators and administrators, the video clearly identifies how education leaders at Fritsche Middle School, a public school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Taylor Park Elementary School, a public school in Freeport, Illinois, have used data to steer strategic decisions to improve student achievement amid their own unique environments and challenges.
The booklet supplements the video by detailing descriptions of the schools and providing practical data resources, such as annotated listings of data tools, books, articles, and Web sites on data use in schools. Additionally, the booklet contains three activities to assist educators. The first activity is a starting point intended to elicit concerns, needs, and attitudes surrounding school data. The second activity allows educators to scrutinize common data vocabulary in an attempt to establish its usefulness. The final activity is a practical storyboarding task where educators derive consensus solutions to fundamental school-improvement questions utilizing school data.
