About the Authors

Sandra Z. Paik, Voices In Action

Sandra Paik is an education policy consultant focusing in the areas of school improvement and educational effectiveness for poor and underserved children, particularly highly mobile students. She conducts professional development workshops regarding student mobility and educating students using human rights perspectives. She is also involved in programs on developing and supporting education leadership and integrating human rights perspectives into education. She is a collaborating contributor for Add It Up: Using Research to Improve Education for Low-Income and Minority Students, written by Anne Lewis. Paik has testified before the Washington, D.C. City Council; she has also conducted workshops and made presentations at several national education and child advocacy conferences; she has provided professional development workshops at local school districts. She is the former Director of Education Programs at the Poverty and Race Research Action Council in Washington, DC, where she developed programs around student mobility and other issues faced by low-income students and families. She operated a small education research/advocacy grants program, and she collaborated on a civil rights curriculum project. Paik holds an M.A. in Policy Analysis and Evaluation from Stanford University School of Education; she has a B.A. in History from Tufts University. Currently, Paik is working on a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.


Rebecca Phillips, NCREL

Rebecca Phillips, Program Specialist, works in the Office of Communications and the Office of Policy and Networks at North Central Regional Educational Laboratory (NCREL). Phillips holds a M.A. in Communication and a B.A. in Political Science, both from the University of Illinois.
