Letters to Teachers and Volunteers

Hello First Grade Teachers,

Our Family Math Night looks like it will be an overwhelming success. Our current count of parents and children is over 500! I hope I have a voice by then!

A big thank you to all of you that volunteered. If you have not signed up but would like to come, you are very welcome to join us. An additional note will follow about the types of things I need help with.

We need to pull all manipulatives from first grade classrooms to have enough for all 55 tables. I will come to your room to pick up the manipulatives after 2:00 today. If you have an activity planned for Thursday and you need your manipulatives, no problem! In that case I will ask you to bring them to Carrie Martinez' room by 3:30 Thursday and Carrie will help me bring them over.

We will transport the manipulatives to South in the blue bins they came in. Please make sure you have only one manipulative in each bin, and check that your name is still on the side of the bin.

We need to collect from you:

We have many volunteers helping to make this evening a success and I am hoping none of our manipulatives grow legs and walk away. If you are missing anything when your kit is returned Friday, PFA will help us complete your kit.

Thanks for all your help!

Meg

Dear Volunteers,

Thank you so much for offering to help with our first Family Math Night. We are expecting over 500 people, so we really are in need of helping hands. It will be fun to see all of the parents and children work together to solve problems.

In the gym at South there will be 55 tables arranged in 11 groups of five. Each table will have a balloon, name of the manipulative, and the letter and number. The groups will be labeled A-1, A-2, A-3, B-1, B-2, B-3 etc. On the table will be one type of manipulative and three identical activity sets. There will be ten chairs at each table, and grade levels will be mixed.

If possible please try to arrive at 6:30 to help finish the set-up. At 6:30 parking should not be a problem. People will begin to arrive at 7:15.

About 7:15 teachers should begin greeting people and handing out programs. The program outlines what they should do. But basically they should go downstairs, find a seat and stay there. I will give a very short introduction, and then they will spend about ten minutes at the first station.

We will sound a bell at the ten minute mark and then the entire table will move to the next station in their letter group. We may also need your help directing people during the first rotation. We will review that on Thursday. This will continue through the five stations. When they are finished with the last station, I will give a quick closing and everyone is off on their merry way!

I think it will take about 15 minutes to pick things up and then those of you that can make it, let's go to Hackney's to celebrate our successful evening!

Thank you again for helping!
