Math by All Means

The Math by All Means series provides teachers with innovative, exciting, classroom-tested replacement units for teaching mathematics in grades one through four. Each Math by All Means unit presents a completely developed five-to-six-week plan for teaching students to think mathematically and to learn to apply math concepts in a problem-solving context. Key to the units are activities that require and encourage students to think, reason, and solve problems. The activities avoid activities or exercises that can be done by rote. Each activity includes directed lessons, independent explorations, whole-class discussions, assessments, and classroom vignettes that describe how the material was presented in an actual classroom and how students responded. The series includes the following books, all available through Cuisenaire Co. of America, Inc.:

Math by All Means: Place Value grades 1-2, by Marilyn Burns

Math by All Means: Geometry Grades 1-2, by Chris Confer

Math by All Means: Multiplication Grade 3, by Marilyn Burns
