Recent research on learning has influenced our understanding of technology as a tool for learning and communication. Many educational researchers believe that technology, especially the Internet, will play a significant role in increasing engaged learning in restructured schools. Just as Project 2061's Benchmarks for Science Literacy (1993) and the National Science Education Standards (National Research Council, 1994) have created a vision of what science instruction should be, these researchers have begun to create a vision for learning and technology.
