Wrote Poems or Stories Based on Their Journal Writings and Observations
![]()
Students wrote the following poems after a field trip to the Red Tail Ridge Nature Preserve. The poems are based on observations made by the students while they were learning about natural phenomena such as life cycles and the changing of the seasons.
Tall trees are swaying
In the breeze;
The leaves are dancing
With great ease.
The flowers blooming
Of every color,
And this because of
Nature's Mother.
Our Mother's laughter
Is the wind...
And when she dances
New life begins.
She brings the soft rain
And soon the flowers.
Her tall trees shall
Always tower.

First you're a hawk
flying in the sky...
then in a second;
that feeling quickly dies.
Then you're a fish
swimming in the sea...
watching out for sharks;
or people like you and me.
Then you're a starfish
reaching for the shore..
lost in your world;
hoping that there's more.
Then when you make it back
you're human once again...
until for the second time;
you jump,
fly
and swim.

Can You Feel Spring?
Springtime is in the air
you can see signs everywhere
flower buds are blooming
songs of birds are tuning
mothers teach their newborn young
that their lives have just begun
listen, listen, for the sweet sounds
music, it is all around
I feel so free now...or
is it me?
watch new animals tumble
then fumble...
smell flowers
see spring showers,
isn't it grand...
to hold spring in the palm of your hand?
