Joyce Elementary School faces many of the challenges of other urban schools, but it has found that teamwork and a focus on students have served it well. The principal, Les Brown, has been there a number of years and works with staff and parents to add programs and activities for students each year that provide new knowledge, fun activity after school, and a sense of community in the school. Teacher teams develop, organize, and implement school programs ranging from a well-orchestrated honors program dinner to a multi-activity after school program of sports and academics. These teams are well organized, focused, and self-regulating.
