Authentic assessments (Archbald & Newmann, 1988) are assessment procedures that have meaning beyond the assessment process, are in-depth, and often require performance by the student that demonstrates deeper understanding and skills. Authentic assessments can reap benefits for students and classrooms. Authentic assessment activities can be learning experiences in themselves and are more engaging to students.
