Waiver
This document describes the procedures to be followed by a School Improvement Team to request a waiver from a current School Board Policy, or a significant change from current practice. It would also be used as a preliminary step in requesting a waiver from State Statue. It is important to note that waivers will be granted based upon School Improvement Plans which are data-driven, research based, and support Teaching for Learning for All. If you are requesting a waiver, please complete the form below and attach to your School Improvement Plan.
1. Contact the Chair of the District School Improvement Team (Dr. Sandra McDonald) to determine whether or not what you are proposing requires a waiver. If a waiver is required, complete the rest of this form and submit with your School Improvement Plan by April 20, 1993.
2. Briefly describe the current policy or practice that you wish to waive.
3. Describe what you want to do instead.
4. Provide the rationale for your proposal.
5. What potential obstacles to this change do you foresee?
6. Identify where in your plan preparation and implementation activities are described.
7. Resubmit this waiver request annually with your plan for as long as a waiver is required.
The waiver proposal and attached School Improvement Plan will be reviewed by the District School Improvement Team as part of the standard review process. Any plan with a waiver proposal attached will be forwarded to the Superintendent for his review and recommendation to the School Board for approval of the waiver along with the School Improvement Plan. If the Plan requires a waiver of Board Policy, the appropriate form will be completed noting the Policy being waived, the school receiving the waiver, and the effective dates of the waiver, and this form will be distributed to holders of School Board Policy. If a waiver is disapproved, the school will be notified of the rationale for the lack of approval.
If a waiver of State Statue is required, the proper documentation will be filed by the Superintendent following formal Board action.
