LetterDear R. B Hunt Community Members,
On behalf of the R. B. Hunt faculty and staff, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your children to the 1993-94 school year. We're looking forward to beginning a new school year. On August 19th we have activities planned to welcome you back to school. Students in grades K-5 will have an opportunity to come in and meet their teachers between the hours of 8:00 A. M. and 12 Noon.
On August 23rd classes will begin, and we look forward to implementing our first School Improvement Plan. On June 15th, 1993, the School Board, acting per Florida's school accountability legislation, Blueprint 2000, approved this plan. Our goal is to develop a continuous progress program which provides optimal learning experiences for all students. Our plan envisions technology as a tool which empowers students to become active discovery learners. Development of this plan will require much time for conferencing with parents, training staff, and program design. A flexible schedule which allows early release of our students every Wednesday at 12:30 has been approved by our school board. Board approval was preceded by school newsletters, School Improvement Team updates, updates to the PTO video of School Improvement Plan presentation for checkout, solicitation of comments from parents, surveys, and three public hearings, held on March 23, March 30, and May 6, 1993.
Twenty minutes will be added to each school day, with classes beginning at 8:10 A.M. In this way, our students will have the state-required minutes for instruction. Our weekly schedule for the 1993-94 school year is:
Monday 8:10 AM to 2:25 PM
Tuesday 8:10 AM to 2:25 PM
Wednesday 8:10 AM to 12:30 PM
Thursday 8:10 AM to 2:25 PM
Friday 8:10 AM to 2:25 PM
To make our move to early dismissal as smooth as possible, R. B. Hunt Elementary School is offering a special Extended Day Program on Wednesdays only. This program is being provided for children of working parents who may have difficulty securing care for this day. Please contact me at R. B. Hunt (824-2818) for further details.
As we develop new programs which will ensure the success of every child, we encourage your continued valuable input. School Improvement Team meetings will be held throughout the year and will be announced in our weekly school newspaper, the Hunt's Catch-up. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns. The School Improvement Team, staff, and I are excited about the impact that our plan will make on your child's educational future.
Sincerely,
Robert F. Taylor
