Evaluation of Implementing
the NCTM Standards for School Mathematics for the 21st Century
Implementing the NCTM Standards for School Mathematics for the 21st Century was a professional development project for mathematics teachers and principals at the elementary level. The project extended from October 1989 to March 1990 and was funded by the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education. It was attended by 131 teachers and 19 principals.
Participants in the project attended six keynote workshops given by nationally recognized experts in elementary mathematics education. Three different evaluation instruments were used: a brief evaluation form at the end of each keynote speaker, a comprehensive questionnaire at the end of the entire workshop, and a follow-up telephone survey to assess changes in the teacher's practice and student learning.
