Purposes of the Evaluation
The purposes of the evaluation are determined as part of the initial planning for the professional development activity. They should be clearly stated and should reflect the goals of the activity.
For example, the evaluation of the Ohio Urban Leadership Academy, held in July 1995, had the following purpose:
"The purpose of the evaluation is to assist Academy organizers and planners in understanding how participants: perceive the events of the Academy, determine the utility and relevance of events, and employ formative changes to improve future delivery of professional development to urban educators." (p. 4)
