Gordon Karim, program associate with the Center for School and Community Development at North Central Regional Educational Laboratory, discusses the importance of social capital. Excerpted from a videotaped interview with Gordon Karim (North Central Regional Educational Laboratory, 1997).
"You really have to start at the very very beginning to achieve integrative services, and that is building relationships with people. Integrative services means that all the institutions and organizations and services that are being delivered for the family or for the child all agree that this is the most important thing to do, that the welfare of the child is the most important thing to do. In order for people to agree, they must have a relationship and a trust built way before hand with a long road to achieve integrative services."
