Improved Outcomes for Students and Families

Kirst and Kelley (1995) note that effective school-linked services are related to improved outcomes for students and families:
- Academic Outcomes for Students:
"Increased attendance, a reduced rate of retention in grade, a decrease in the percentage of students designated at risk, and a decrease in the percentage of students designated for special education" (p. 41).
- Health Outcomes for Students:
Increases in "the number of students who receive immunizations on schedule, and the number who have had a health exam within the last year" (p. 41).
- Family Outcomes:
"Increased self-sufficiency, improved family functioning, and increased parent involvement with the school" (p. 41)
They add that "such a broad array of outcomes must be monitored consistently and on a long-term basis, involving information feedback with the collaborative agencies to address unmet needs" (pp. 41-42).
