Policies Regarding the Provision of Services
Dryfoos (1994) notes that the school board often is in a position to determine specific policies relating to the provision of services at the school:
"School boards generally determine overall policies, particularly in regard to the provision of birth control on the premises. As programs become more comprehensive, school boards must be prepared to deal with difficult issues such as conflicting personnel practices and union contracts; complying with regulations for dealing with AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, and other diseases; framing policies about substance abuse and mental health treatment on site; and approving procedures for working with dysfunctional families. In the typical program, the school contribution that the board must approve includes space, maintenance, safety and security, and most important, the principal's leadership." (pp. 149-150)
