
Neighborhood Assets Map

The Neighborhood Assets Map categorizes the resources that are available for
community development into different groups of building blocks.
Primary Building Blocks are assets and capacities located inside the
neighborhood, largely under neighborhood control.
These include:
- personal income
- cultural organizations
- associations of business
- individual businesses
- individual capacities
- religious organizations
- citizens associations
- gifts of labeled people
- and home-based enterprise
Secondary Building Blocks are assets located within the community, but
largely controlled by outsiders.
These include:
- public schools
- libraries
- fire departments
- hospitals
- parks
- higher education institutions
- police
- vacant buildings and land
- social service agencies
- and energy/waste resources
Potential Building Blocks are resources originating outside the neighborhood,
controlled by outsiders.
These include:
- public information
- capital improvement expenditures
- and welfare expenditures
