  Strategies for Personal Contact

Pathways Home

As part of an effective plan for two-way communication, schools can develop various strategies for personal contact between the school staff and families.

One approach is the use of home visiting. Such visits, conducted by teachers and administrators or by parents and community members who are trained volunteers, are a personal way for schools to reach families and increase two-way communication.

Another approach is the school's establishment of a parent center, a special room where parents and family members can gather for conversation and school volunteer work. A parent liaison or coordinator can be designated to work with the parent center and coordinate all efforts to reach families and the community.

Other strategies for personal communication include parent-teacher conferences, class programs, school meetings and events, and telephone communication.
