Karen Hawley MilesKaren Hawley Miles, President, Education Resource Management Strategies, notes that in many schools, less than 50 percent of teaching and support resources go to support instruction in academic areas such as language arts, history, science, and math.
"So one of the things I work with schools to do is to say let's take a look at teaching in other resources, and say what percentage of those resources are allocated against the standards you are measured against. So, what percentage of your resources go to support instruction in language arts, history, science and math. They will be shocked to find that in some schools that I have looked at that less than fifty percent of their overall just teaching and support resources go towards academic subjects."
