

Labor Environment of the Future

Philips employees who visited classrooms at Putnam Couinty Schools provided
students with this view of the workplace and workforce of the future:
"The typical worker of the future will:
- Change jobs every 4 to 6 years
- Experience 10 job changes during a work lifetime
- Work a second career 5 to 8 years beyond first career retirement
Technical and professional jobs account for:
- 30 percent of all jobs
- One-quarter of all new jobs being created
50 percent of all workers will be contingency workers:
- Outsourced or subcontracted jobs
- Part-time, freelance, or independent professionals
Skills required in today's job market:
- Communication skills
- Ability to work as a team member
- Productive time management
- Ability to contribute to change
- Continuous education"
