Labor Environment of the Future

Philips employees who visited classrooms at Putnam Couinty Schools provided students with this view of the workplace and workforce of the future:

"The typical worker of the future will:

• Change jobs every 4 to 6 years
• Experience 10 job changes during a work lifetime
• Work a second career 5 to 8 years beyond first career retirement

Technical and professional jobs account for:

• 30 percent of all jobs
• One-quarter of all new jobs being created

50 percent of all workers will be contingency workers:

• Outsourced or subcontracted jobs
• Part-time, freelance, or independent professionals

Skills required in today's job market:

• Communication skills
• Ability to work as a team member
• Productive time management
• Ability to contribute to change
• Continuous education"
