This artifact from a social studies assignment, is an assessment document that reflects what the teacher felt was important for the students to gain from the assignment. This sixth grade teacher from Leon, Iowa, wanted this research report to accomplish several goals, such as helping students learn about research notes, rough drafts of reports, using detail in the writing and visuals in the presentation. She wanted her students to think about what they had read on Canada and to report that information in their own words and in an interesting manner. In addition, she wanted them to learn about map making and graphing. This assignment not only lays out for the students what they are to do for this report, but it also lays out the grading scale; students know from the beginning what they will be graded on.
