Charlotte Higuchi, third and fourth grade teacher at Farmdale Elementary School in Los Angeles, California, talks about sharing performance based assessment results with students and parents. Excerpted from the videoseries, Schools That Work: The Research Advantage, videoconference #4, Alternatives for Measuring Performance (NCREL, 1991).
"When I sit down and have the parent conferences with my student's parents I always have the student there because it's about them, and the mom and the dad hopefully because they're a family unit together. I show them those assessments, and what they get from it, I believe, is a real sense of where there children are, what they know how to do in reading and math, etc. The standardized tests don't do that.
