Joellen KillionJoellen Killion, Director of Special Projects at the National Staff Development Council, describes professional development in technology as an important intervention but emphasizes that in order to improve student learning, teachers have to implement their technology knowledge and experience effectively in the classroom.
"Staff development is an indirect intervention. If we have quality staff development that doesn't necessarily mean automatically kids are going to be successful, because there's a whole lot that happens between the professional development experience and student success. First of all, we have to determine whether or not the teachers actually use what they're learning, and when we think about technology, we find tons and tons of staff development in technology and not often a lot of implementation of technology particularly in terms of implementing technology to improve learning."
