Avoca School District #37, Wilmette, Illinois

Pathways Home

Avoca School District #37 is a small public school system that serves four communities in the north suburban Chicago area. The district consists of two schools: Avoca West School, which serves prekindergarten through grade five, and Marie Murphy Junior High School, which serves grades six through eight. The total enrollment of approximately 600 students represents many different cultures and beliefs.

The district developed Technology for Teaching and Learning, a plan for integrating technology into the curriculum. The plan--which contains an overview, mission statement, and goals with specific action steps--was implemented during the school years of 1992-93, 1993-94, and 1994-95. At the end of the 1994-95 school year, the planning team developed proposals for summer projects that would continue the implementation of the technology. During the summer of 1995, teachers were invited to review and evaluate the technology plan. Their work produced a Statement of Beliefs and Goals and a Scope and Sequence of technology-related skills for grades K-8.
