Goal 1Avoca School District #37, in Wilmette, Illinois, developed and implemented the following action steps for each specified school year in fulfillment of Goal 1.
"Students will efficiently access, process, and communicate information through the use of technology.1992-93
All students will experience desktop publishing through writing, editing, and publishing with text and graphics and color.
Students will experience computers and other technologies integrated into several curricular units/topics.
Students will use electronic databases currently existing in the district (e.g., Groliers/Comptons Encyclopedia, MacGlobe, CD-ROM Atlases).
Students will create integrated media presentations.
Students will use telecommunication to develop their connectivity with other students and the wider global community. Students will begin to use on-line research and collaborative projects.
1993-1994
Students will continue to use desktop publishing for their writing.
Computers and other technology will continue to be integrated into the classroom curriculum.
Students will use database information for curricular projects.
On-line or electronic collaborative projects will continue to be developed and supported.
Middle school students will begin presenting projects using multimedia technology. Upper elementary students will begin to use multimedia for classroom projects.
Most students will have access to a mobile computer and printer within their classrooms. These may be combined to form minilabs by each grade level team.
Additional VCR/TVs will be available for instructional use as needed. Classrooms will begin using laserdiscs for instructional use.
Software will continue to be reviewed, recommended, and acquired. New materials will be cataloged and made available.
1994-1995
Students will continue to use desktop publishing tools for their writing.
Computers and other technology will continue to be integrated into the classroom curriculum.
Students will begin designing their own databases for classroom projects
On-line or electronic collaborative projects will be integrated into the curriculum at many grade levels. Proficiency will be attained in the middle school.
Middle school students will use multimedia for projects. Elementary students will continue to develop the use of multimedia.
Students will continue to use computers, printers, and minilabs of computers within their classroom area.
Equipment and material such as VCRs, TVs, and laserdisc players will be readily available for instructional use.
Software will continue to be reviewed, recommended, and acquired. New purchases will be cataloged and made available.
Network versions and multiple copies of software will be available as requested.
Indicators of Success
At the end of these three years, students will:
- Utilize software/hardware to communicate in various modes (text, visual, graphics) including desktop publishing skills, multimedia presentation skills, and electronic portfolios.
- Experience the integration of computer curriculum with classroom work.
- Have continual access to video/educational instruction in the classroom.
- Become involved in a range of teaching/learning activities involving computers in various machine-configurations (class lab, minilabs, and individual stations).
- Use electronic resources to gather and process information.
- Be involved with collaborative on-line projects with other classes, schools, and communities."
