Proposals for Summer
ProjectsThe technology planning team at Avoca School District #37, in Wilmette, Illinois, made the following proposals for technology development during the summer of 1995:
"AVOCA TECHNOLOGY PROPOSALS FOR SUMMER PROJECTS
TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION PLANNING TEAM
Timelines and staff involvement:
Staff involved: Technology Coordinator, Professional Development Chair, Instructional Technology Center (ITC) directors (2), 2-4 staff from Avoca West School, 2-4 staff from Marie Murphy School.
Comprised of staff from a range of grade levels & subject areas.
Estimate 16-25 total hours of work per staff member involved, 16 hours of which would be District Curriculum Work days.
Time required:
- 16 hours per person / District Curriculum Day
- Additional 6 hours each for Coordinator, Chair, and ITC Directors putting goals and scope & sequence into final form.
- Additional 4 hours for Coordinator and Chair for:
- Organizational tasks toward running the summer project
- Planning to share results with entire school community
- Developing workshops for August Institute Days
Develop goals for next three years:
School goals: Avoca West and Marie Murphy schools
Integration across curriculum:
- Student roles, responsibilities, and needs
- Teacher roles, responsibilities, and needs
- Technology support roles, responsibilities, and needs
- Administrator roles, responsibilities, and needs

Funding strategies
Begin work on Scope and Sequence:
Focus on integration across the curriculum
For each technology application:
- Identify benchmarks
- Identify curricular applications
Work on this task will continue:
- August Institute Days
- Throughout the 1995-96 school year / pilots
The following two proposals for summer projects would be funded via Pioneering Partners grant moneys. We have sufficient funds remaining, and these two projects qualify as dissemination work since they serve to enhance and expand the use of technology within and beyond our district.
Sixth Grade Integrative Learning with Technology On-Line Project
Designing an interdisciplinary project for sixth graders which would incorporate the use of telecommunications, connecting with other students in other settings, and use of additional technologies.
Timelines and staff involvement:
- 2 math/science staff members from 6th grade team and one technology & learning resource person
- Estimated time would be 12 hours of work per person.
Professional Development/Technology - College Credit Courses
Develop course catalog, resource materials, syllabi, and model for teaching strategies for technology/professional development classes. Intent is to build sufficient background material and teaching strategies for use in designing future classes as well as for use in obtaining a university credit option from an area institution.
Staff involved: Professional Development Chair and Technology Coordinator
Timeline: approximately 12 hours of work per person"
