Marla Davenport, special projects supervisor at Technology and Information Educational Services in Roseville, Minnesota, talks about teachers' needs for hands-on practice with technology tools and for technical support in order to effectively use the technology in the classroom. Excerpted from a videotaped interview for the video series Learning With Technology, program #1, Merging Onto the Information Highway (North Central Regional Educational Laboratory, 1994).

"Another very important piece of internet access is the fact that teachers need to know how to use the tools, and to be able to use them with students, they need to feel comfortable with them, and training and support is a big issue. Teachers need training, administrators need training, all of us will need a lot more experience as we move into this whole world of telecomputing and telecommunicating."

This Critical Issue was researched and written by Rosemary Bell, former policy analyst with the Evaluation and Policy Information Center at North Central Regional Educational Laboratory, and Rafael Ramirez, senior research associate with the Center for Technology Projects at North Central Regional Educational Laboratory.
