Assistive technology devices are commonly perceived as being exclusively used with students with special needs. However, assistive technology can be an excellent support tool for any student. (When used with a nonspecial needs student, assistive technology is referred to in IDEA as instructional technology.) Portable word processors, for example, are a great tool that provides note-taking and basic word-processing capabilities for any user.
