| Broadly speaking, language learning devices such as speaking dictionaries and thesauruses make use of the same type of a similar type of technology that is used in screen readers-software programs that allow visually disabled students and other learners with special needs to access Web pages, learning materials on CD-ROMs, and digital books without too much dependence on human aid. A speaking dictionary and thesaurus is commonly used to reinforce phonic skills and help students in learning to correctly spell and learn the meanings of new vocabulary words.
