Pathways Home

Assistive devices that utilize digital voice output can assist students in learning and writing new vocabulary words, locating new words independently, learning to spell words correctly, developing proper use of phonics, and increasing fluency in sentence comprehension and construction. Students can enter words phonetically using such text-to-speech systems to display correct spelling and provide pronunciation.

This video clip features a student using a handheld electronic spelling device with a voice output as an aid in developing word comprehension and increasing vocabulary understanding. In the video clip, the student types in a complete sentence and then presses a button to hear it read by the device.
