Other technologies, such as audio tape recorders, can also be put to use in assistive contexts in the diverse classroom. In this example, an LEP student uses an audio tape recorder to self-record his pronunciation and fluency of words in English during a classroom reading assignment. By recording himself reading a book, the student can self-monitor his progress and reading fluency as he continues to practice his English language skills. Again, one should be aware that technology used with students who are not special education students is referred to as instructional or educational technology, not assistive technology.
