First Grade Schedule

Pathways Home

Fisher (1995) suggests the following schedule for first graders:

"Organizing time is one of the most challenging aspects of teaching, especially in a generative curriculum. There needs to be a natural flow of the day, with a balance of group times and individual practice times, active times and calm times, talkative times and contemplative times. Throughout the day, we as teachers try to be attentive and responsive to the children's interests. The ideas and interests that they bring up during settling-in time and group meeting expand during writing, workshop, math, and reading. My daily schedule seems to satisfy this pacing and promotes and supports a generative curriculum.
First Grade Schedule
8:40 - Settling-in time
9:10 - Group meeting
9:40 - Writing and/or workshop
11:10 - Recess
11:30 - Workshop or Specialist
12:15 - Math
12:50 - Recess and lunch
1:35 - Reading
3:10 - Home" (pp. 38-39)
