Classroom Design Considerations for the Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Education Center

Pathways Home

Peoria Public Schools, in Peoria, Illinois, had a rare opportunity to design and build a new early childhood education center for 400 children. The first step in planning for theValeska Hinton Early Childhood Education Center was to assemble a community task force. With the help of consultants and architects, the task force carefully researched design considerations for the environment of the center. Decisions were made about the basic room design and interior decorating. The room layout was finalized so that learning centers would be created in each classroom. Then a setup plan was determined for assembling and placing the furniture and equipment, setting up classrooms, and distributing learning materials to the classrooms.
