Connect the Curriculum Content


Progressive teaching strategies encourage the creation of interdisciplinary subject matter. Willis (1992) notes the advantages of teaching in units organized around a theme, problem or project. Such an organization "provides connections" among subjects so that students can connect school work to real life experiences.

Perkins and Solomon (1988) recommend organizing instruction so that students apply knowledge and skills from one context to another. This transfer of understanding encourages learners to have confidence in their thinking abilities.
