The Release Form They Sent to a Record Company

Pathways Home

One of the problems Dean's students encountered involved copyright laws. The students had selected a song to be used during the opening sequence of their videotape, but in order to use the song they needed to receive permission from the record company which produced the album. In order to deal with this problem and get the necessary permission, the students sent the following letter to the record company:

c/o Okoboji High School
901 H Ave.
Milford, IA 51351

Warner Brothers Records Inc.
3300 Warner Blvd.
Burbank CA 91505-4694

To whom it may concern:

I'm a member of the Speech class at Okoboji High School in Milford, Iowa. We are producing a video about our school's history for a local celebration of our state's Sesquicentennial. We would like the necessary permission to use parts of Madonna's song "This Used To Be My Playground", as background music for a portion of our introduction. This video will be shown to many different organizations in the area; it may also be sold to interested parties. Please reply as soon as possible so as we can finish our video before May 25, our last day of school. Thanks for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
